Kylee-Week 6

  1. A nice contrast in subject from photo to photo. Some of the night photographs seem a little bit blown out and slightly over exposed from your light source. But this does create a nice contrast in value.

  2. Photos 7, 8, and 10 are the strongest pieces because they have the widest range of values and good contrast. Photo 5 had a lot of noise which seemed to kind of distort the potential contrast.

  3. I think photo 4 could have been more dynamic with higher contrast through the use of a wider value range. I agree with Sydney that the last photos are stronger in that sense.

  4. The contrast is nice through out excluding photos eight and two are a little dark. The textures in photos three, four, and six are really successful.

  5. I like that there is a lot of ambiguity to these photos due to the tight shots and the nighttime setting. I'm assuming that played a factor into the blurriness of your first image, but it kind of reads as accidental to me.

  6. My first critique would be just to amp up the contrast. Since you’re shooting at night it may be beneficial to bring a flash light or some other source that could make your first shots have a little more depth. 9 is probably my favorite because of how it’s framed and I don’t know what the subject is immediately

  7. I like your use of motion in these, especially in the rainy photo. You used a lot of contrast which is working well with your simple compositions.

  8. Kylee,
I would pay closer attention to the guide of the compositional elements. I am only certain of your use of high contrast in image 6 and repetition in image 2. Many of your images are quite blurry and don't establish what the subject of the image is clearly. Your images shot in the dark are quite grainy as well. Your most successful image is image 6; good clarity, subject, high contrast and framing. I recommend that you practice becoming as familiar as you can operating your camera. It takes a significant amount of problem solving so that you can use your camera more effectively. Even walking around with notes on what camera setting to adjust to get the desired exposure would help. And having a list of all the elements the assignment asks would help as well.
